Beginning on June 2, 2019, Don will be undertaking the challenge to bicycle unsupported from Astoria, Oregon to Yorktown, Virginia in the Trans Am Bike Race. The Trans Am Bike Race is a self-supported, ultra-distance bicycling race along the Trans America Trail –a 4,300 mile route that runs from the Pacific coast to the Atlantic coast; and is one of the most grueling races in the world with less than 50% of registered riders able to complete it every year.
There are no check points and no support vehicles. Don will be responsible for his own food, shelter and bicycle maintenance. He will cycle through rain and snow, tackle the high mountains of the Cascades and Rockies; battle the heat and high winds of the Great Plains; and endure the rolling mountains of the Appalachians.
In his first attempts, Don raised nearly $15,000 in support of The Joshua Chamberlain Society. He has a goal to raise $30,000 or more this year. You can follow Don’s ride on his blog at http://donaldforth.weebly.com or real time GPS at www.trackleaders.com.
Please consider how you can help Don meet this goal.
