Richard A. "Buz" Cooper, MD

1936 - 2016

 Dr. Richard "Buz" Cooper was a beloved Hematologist/Oncologist at the University of Pennsylvania from 1971-1985, where he founded Penn's Cancer Center. From 1975-1985, Buz served as the Director of the Abramson Cancer Center. Outside of his work at Penn, Buz enjoyed cycling and spending time with his family and friends. After living a life dedicated to helping others battle cancer, Buz passed away on January 15, 2016. The Breakthrough Challenge is proud to honor Buz's legacy by naming their grant recipients the "Cooper Scholars".
