Bed Race Frequently Asked Questions
How does the race work?
Teams are groups of a minimum of 5 people. One person must be the designated bed rider while 4 others push a twin sized bed (or larger) on wheels in the parking lot at Hollywood Casino. Teams may have one alternate and an unlimited number of non-racing fundraising team members (called nappers).
Teams are racing in a pool format with four teams racing in round robin style. Each pool champion automatically qualifies for the championship round. In the event of a tie between teams within a pool, head-to-head results will be used to break a tie followed by the team with the fastest time(s) will win the tie breaker in the event of a multi-way tie.
Schedules will be available to track your races and we will have two official brackets displayed at the race. You are responsible for being at the bull pen at least one race before your scheduled time. Races will not be held for incomplete or absent teams. We will be making announcements throughout the day. You can also check the official brackets to confirm when your team’s next race will be.
Where can I check the bracket?
The brackets will be located near the starting line and the large tent. These are the official standings. You will also be given a bracket at check in for tracking your own team’s progress.
How do I know when it’s my team’s turn to race?
Follow the races for the teams in your flight/pool on the bracket schedule. Announcements will also be made.
Can kids participate?
Due to insurance demands, all participants must be 13 years of age or older on the day of the event. Children under 18 are not able to enter Hollywood Casino and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times while on casino property. We will also have entertainment and games for children at the event!
Are pets welcome?
Yes, but they must be leashed and in your control at all times.
Do I have to bring my own bed and mattress?
No! You can rent a bed and mattress, or just a mattress, from us! If you do wish to bring your own bed and mattress, keep in mind these bed building guidelines.
If you do bring your own bed, drop off will be located in the employee parking lot- see the site map for location information. Cars must be moved to a designated parking location once beds are dropped off.
Beds will be inspected for rule compliance at check-in. All non-compliance issues must be corrected in order for a bed to race. No modifications are permitted once checked in except repairs. Bed regulations can be found here.
Limited tools and minor repair materials will be available- if you feel the bed you are bringing may need more extensive repairs during the race, please plan on bringing your own supplies. We will maintain any rented bed. We will gladly accept donations of beds immediately after the races.
How many people on a team?
Teams must be composed of a total of 5 people- four racers who push the bed and one rider. The rider must remain the same person throughout the race. An unlimited number of non-racing fundraising team members may also join your team for free.
Can I sign up my team on the day of the event?
No. At least one person from each team must be registered by midnight on Sunday April 22, 2018 so that we can create the race schedules. Additional team members can join these existing teams at the event on May 5. No additional teams will be permitted to register after April 23, 2018. Participants registered by April 23, 2018 will be guaranteed a t-shirt. Substitutions will be permitted on site through race time.
I don’t want to participate, but can I come and cheer on friends?
YES! Spectators are welcome to join in the fun outside in the parking lot to cheer on the racers! We will have family friendly entertainment, games and food available at the event.
Do I have to wear a costume?
No, but majority of teams do. A team award for best costume will be presented at the race. Please keep it family friendly. Also, keep in mind that rented beds cannot have decorations- one sign that can be easily removed can be secured to the bed during each race. Decorations would delay the races and the day's schedule. Where is parking located?
Parking is free in the casino garage for participants and guests. Once in the garage, take the south stairway exit to get to the employee parking lot- away from the casino entrance. After exiting the garage, look for the pop up tent and flag for Registration. Please plan on allowing approximately 5-10 minutes to get to the race registration tent once you arrive at the casino.
